TINY FURNITURE

I have this secret houseboat fantasy where I, well, live on a houseboat. There's not like, weird paddle sex involved or anything - because I know that's where your mind went next! My fantasy is about to kinda sorta come true as this week I will be moving into a gorgeous Fort Greene brownstone, and the only reason I can afford it is that my room is so small it may as well be carved out of the hull of a sailboat. But it's also complete with some built-ins and a lofted bed, so it's very futuristic Japanese pod hotel, which makes me basically sort of like a space pirate? IDK either, but there's more where this came from...

At the top you can see a very dreamy and totally wonderful boho-luxe interior shot by Pascal Chevallier (click through to his site). While I don't have the luxury of that much space, I do have the burden of that much clutter, so I'm turning to Max Sinsteden's dorm room and Emma Freemantle's houseboat for some more spatially-appropriate inspiration. Can you tell I love this style?

Of course, when I said "lofted bed," I'm sure your mind went here:
But the space is uncannily similar to the room on the left, though I wish it were a tad airier and more Brooklyn-y, like the room on the right. The biggest plus will be the closet space under the bed, obviously...

These are some "room elements" I'm considering as I think about the space, though my initial housewarming purchase will most likely be toilet paper, not a Turkish kilim...
clockwise from top left...
1) A still life. I've seen quite a few of these in thrift shops and I'm kinda into it. Although, I could just paint my own...
2) Art Deco-y brass fixtures. These will probably not happen.
3) A big mirror. To open up the space and look at myself, natch.
4) Glam pillows. These I actually have, thanks to my previous job!
5) A really pretty French reproduction desk chair. Also not likely.
6) A bust. Great decorative object and I happen to have one that I could paint white and make it look all posh.
7) Dream desk. So glam! That color! The gold! But there's already a desk in the room and I think it's from Target or something, so...
8) I'm sure I can find a wonderfully beat up and preferably disease-free Persian rug somewhere in Brooklyn. Ok, maybe disease-light.

And some other dream inspirations...

1) I have a little Foo dog, too! And bookshelves. This will happen.
2) L'Wren Scott's Paris home office...I only included this because I'm thinking I may make my desk face outward and put a print/painting behind me. Maybe like an underrated Warhol or something budgety.
3) PLANTS. Live ones, preferably. This Miss Moss post sums up my feelings.
4) Another ethno-library vignette for pretty's sake.

Wish me luck on my move! I've still got just a suitcase full of dreams so it should be easy enough, right?
