There are only a few more weekends of the farmer's market left, I can't leave my house without a jacket and I've taken my moth-eaten sweaters to the tailor to be darned so that I can effectively layer - we're headed into winter, people! As such, I have accordingly eschewed flowers in favor of
exotic grasses and am trying to make some of my more recent interior inspirations a reality.
Taking a cue from the And George photo I
posted a few weeks back, I picked up some hurricane glass and a pillar candle to
redo my “living room” tablescape. In the awkward corner right behind my door I tied some gifted reeds together with twine and placed them in a discarded planter I found in my yard. (This is the third object I've found out there, dusted off, and brought inside - the unexpected perks of renting.) I love the earthiness of the red clay and the fact that it sort of looks like a little tree, but it won't die when I forget about it! To echo the shape and aesthetic vibe of the reeds, I put flax leaves in my "dining room" table vase - their height is intriguing, but I have to admit I'd stil prefer a bouquet...*tristesse*. Also of note: my new tablecloth, hand block-printed in India. So gorgeous! I thought I needed a 60" round, but this is a 55" square and the way the corners drape off the ends of the table is pretty elegant, if I do say so myself.
Still on my to-do list: seasonally appropriate
pillows and a throw. I hoped to switch out my bright Tree of Life curtains with something heavier in velvet, but everything velvet in my price range is oogly. How are you transitioning your space this season?
