DEAR INTERNET No. 33

8.23.2013

Since I was so quiet all week, here's a big fat Dear Internet to let you know what's on my mind...click on pretty much any image for the source!

Prospekt Supply reached out to me about their initial offering, a pullover windbreaker, and I was like "Ok, they're based in New York and Vancouver, that's nice and liberal, but a parka?" Then I saw this shot on Vanessa Jackman's blog and was like, "Whoa! Parkas are hot right now!" Wouldn't you know, the woman in Jackman's picture is the wife of one of Prospekt's founders and she's wearing this parka. And now I want one. #weirdscience

I wrote in the last DI about wanting to take a trip to Asia this summer...it didn't happen, but I did find designer Brian Paquette's Tokyo travel diary from last spring and I really love it.

Some people have dogs, I have plants. They are my babies. I'm also obsessed with adorable ceramic pots and jars and have a mini-collection going. Stay tuned to my Instagram if you want updates about my own room makeover progress...needless to say, it's slow going. But I have plants! And they're cute!

Margaret Howell's Koto Bolofo-lensed AW13 campaign is soooo good.

I love this picture by photographer Cris Romagosa; it seems very fitting for the end of summer, no?

The Artful Desperado is putting out some of my favorite food styling/photography right now...it's so gorgeous and clever! Wit & Vinegar is damn good at it, too.

We covered Erica Tanov's bedding collection for work and the beautifully moody lookbook shot by Erica Shires is still on my mind.

I love this structural Isabel Marant flannel tee at Steven Alan...a boy version, coming soon, Ms. Marant? I imagine my arms might not fit in this one...because obviously I am sO bUfF.

And I'm still figuring out my desk/chair sitch and what the hell is going to go up on the wall behind my desk.

Doing this a little differently, but more on that in a tick...this week I loved model Anouck Lepère's home on NOWNESS...
...and David Mallett's Paris salon on Into The Gloss...
...and I'm officially into Byredo Parfums candles, the Peyote Poem in particular (how great are these names? Wasn't Candy Darling a character in that Robert Rodriguez zombie movie? Righteous.)

...also, Solange Knowles is just the bee's knees. Her hair! She told Lucky Magazine it's inspired by Janet Jackson circa Poetic Justice, aka Janet Jackson circa AWESOME.
And I haven't really listened to Beyoncé in years (she lost me after radio overload of that "to the left" song), but my Solange craze led me to take a look at all of B's recent videos, leading to my current ObSessIOn with this song:

The video is a bit OOC, but I have to say she's kind of totally charming, and I love the Maybelline outfit and now want to be a ballet dancer in Queens.

So, my new goal is to condense a lot of the blog's "outside content" into these Dear Internet posts (really my original intent), since people seem to respond most to my stuff (understandable). I'll still upload the occasional editorial, as long as it meets my Standards Of Cool, and bits and bobs here and there as I see fit. Sound good? Ok, endless bisous. Bon weekend!

Feelin' kinda blue (in a good way) with my link loves this week...

1) I recently picked up a letterman's jacket that's a bit oversized and much sportier than anything else I own. I'm working on ways to incorporate it into my day-to-day...we all have our struggles. Dude on bike in Paris, by Maya.
2) I'm dreaming of a sun-drenched Christmas. Now that, as of last night, temperatures have officially dropped (it's like puberty for the weather!){think about it} I'm feeling a deep (and rather immediate, huh?) yearning to be wherever this is. Photo by Monica Sanchez, found by Miss Moss - who, for the record, is just about the best Flickr user maybe ever. I have no idea how she searches around that site so productively, but I can't - so here's a link to some of her other awesome finds.
3) I've honestly no idea where I found this, but not only is the bag cute, the typeface is super-cute, too!
4) This house has been spread around the web like a bad case of the sniffles at your local Montessori school (what did you think I was going to say?) However, I think it's awesome, so I'm including just a taste of it here. The artwork is great and I love that chair.
5) This song is pretty.
Happy weekend!

Finds from around the interweb...

1) A wonderful fall wardrobe concoction from Landon Ford of Paper Magazine. C'est parfait, no? The proportions are just SO RIGHT. And those shoes! And those bracelets! Oh and yeah, that deep-scooping teesh. He doesn't have my chest beard to really make it pop, but he's keeping the dream alive. Kudos to you, good sir.
2) Topshop Unique nails as seen on 5 inch and up. Dalmation print? Stop it. Dying.
3) Piombo scarves from Barneys. The whole line is pretty fantastic, and I also fell hard for some of their belts, but these beauties are number one in my book. Some details about the line can be found at downeast and out.
4) I've been worrying, as we head into winter, what could add pizzazz to my flowerless coffee table. The solution? Gorgeous hurricane glass and a giant candle; an inspiring tableau via And George.
5) St. Vincent is playing in Charlottesville next weekend! I honestly don't think I like the album enough to see her in concert (I know I'm so unhip), but this song and Cruel have been stuck in my head all week.

An xxtra large Dear Internet...

1) This IS my fall/winter. Cape? Check. Hat? Check. Red as my accent color? Sure thing. This image brought to you by my new "pin board," over at Pinterest, which I dedicated to girls who dress like boys who dress like how I wanna dress. It's funny how all of these social media platforms are breeding weird combinations of each other - Pinterest is sort of like Tumblr meets Twitter meets a traditional pin board. A little confusing at first, but I've come around to it and now sort of want to get rid of my Tumblrs. Yikes, the internet!
2) Tom Ford's apartment in Paris.
3) Art by Landon Metz.
4) Pajama dressing: the next frontier? If socks are my new hot accessory and hats are my new wardrobe staple, then yes, pajama dressing is my next frontier. Stay tuned.
5) Smack my ass and call me Minkoff - this weekender from Rebecca Minkoff's Ben Minkoff line is everything.
6) Shoe porn. Through and through.
7-10) Some choice tracks from Au Revoir Simone, because I like them.
Happy Friday!

1) *Le sigh* Kids started school just this week, but sweater dressing is already on my mind. It's been so cool in the mornings lately, which comes as a bit of a shock. April is still so clear in my mind, when I would walk to work anticipating warmer days. But the heat this summer's been the definition of stifling and for once in my life I'm looking forward to cooler temps.
2) Vintage shops have the best blogs. Clever Nettle is based in Portland, Oregon, and their blog makes me want to move to a city I thought was so grungy. (And that was listed recently by GQ as one of the worst-dressed in the States! Maybe only for dudes.) This is an image they found by photographer Mark Peckmezian. Sooo prettty.
3) Korean people not looking at the camera. Just kidding, that's not some new site like Look At This Fucking Hipster or something. I pulled these images from Webstagram, an online source for Instagram where you can find the app user's photos (here are mine). These beauties are by Hyerim Shin. I don't know why I'm so drawn to photographs of people looking away from the camera, I suppose it's the hint of that inner life - heart me some Virginia Woolf!
4) I discovered this bag on Svpply.com, my new obsession. It's basically product porn - tons of stuff you want to buy, with a link to where it's available online. I hate to love the internet.
5) Toro Y Moi - My Touch. I just did not expect this guy to sound like this. This song is my new favorite - the bass is enthralling, but it's still pretty. Turn your speakers up. Happy Friday!

Internet obsessions for the week (a day late)...

1) September is fast approaching and I'm trying to work out a budget for the influx of magazines I'm going to be unable to stop myself from buying. Here, a forward-looking Vogue Italia cover from fourteen years ago that I'll try to recall while holding the decidedly anachronistic latest issue of W
2) I saw Beginners this week and all I remember is Mélanie Laurent's hair. I am obsessed with her. A friend of mine declared the French actress my "spirit diva." I'm ok with that.
3) Ann Demeulemeester snooties (sneaker-booties, duh) at Barneys.
4) And speaking of Amy Sedaris, she's apparently now hawking Downy. But I love her.
