JUST A THOUGHT

This month's French Vogue is the first Alt-ified issue I've purchased - isn't that crazy? I can't believe it's been a year since she took over from Carine Roitfeld, but more than that I can't believe it's taken me so long to pick up a copy. The collections look amazing on Daria, styled by Alt, Joe McKenna and Melanie Ward and shot by Inez and Vinoodh - totally exuberant and glamorous. Also, VP just relaunched their website and it's basically a super sexy blog - so shiny! so fashiony!

On another note, my flowers from last week's makeover post died, as flowers are wont to do, and I had the idea to cut the head off one of the roses and put it in water in my little ikat bowl from Anthropologie. It's quite cute, no? And a great way to recycle!

IT TAKES TANGERINE TO TANGO

Time for some makeover madness! I've synergized my orangespiration with my decorating-with-candles mania here, and crossed it with my overarching love for all things shiny to bring you this post. It all started with the sidetable, which I got on sale for $15 at Urban Outfitters. (It was originally $148!) It's color was something akin to tapioca, which is just so not hot right now - crisis. I picked up a can of spraypaint at my local hardware store and set about revamping this little number in a delicious shade of tangerine, the Pantone "Color of the Year." Considering the fact that I've not only done this before, but photodocumented the entire process, you would think I couldn't screw up...so I even sort of surprised myself when I forgot to prime the thing. It is, in the words of Cher Horowitz, a Monet now - pretty from a distance, but a bit of a mess up close.

In other life lessons: this candle. I bought it because it's just soooo cute, but then, you know what? I don't think I love the way it smells so much and sometimes I think I can't even smell it at all! Oh, well, I still like the look of it. STYLE SNAPSHOTS

from top to bottom, left to right...

1) My new favorite color combo: black & blue. I fell in love with this street style snap of Emmanuelle Alt and then this shot of Ashley Olsen and decided it's the best way to wear denim, maybe ever. I don't want to be dramatic, though. Paired with a skinnny belt and my skinny bracelet that looks like Philip Crangi.

2) I stopped into Ike's Underground the other weekend and made off with quite a haul. Here I am modeling a shirt/vest thing that looks like it came from a wardrobe auction for the now defunct My Name is Earl. I picked up some better things, I swear, but when my friend saw this pop up in her Instagram feed she said it looked like I'd been kidnapped. I think it looks like I might be trying to sell myself on the internet from prison ("And this is my gas station attendant outfit.") It's like a real-life choose your own adventure novel!

3) My dizzesk got some new flowers again. These are Lisianthus. I LOVE them. I want to strew them about my bed and lay there writing poetry.

4) The statement nail is back, and it's ready for fall. This time around I chose to keep it traditional with a classic houndstooth. The big debate between me myself and I was whether or not this should become an all-fingers affair, but it was (rightly) decided that just the one nail is a fun touch and the whole shebang would be a touch tacky.

6) Laura Marling's new cd is out! I won't make a judgment call yet, but the cover art is "pretty sweet, dude."
