SUNO X BEN GILES

10.10.2012

I was waiting for the women's collections to end before posting anything about them, but what do you know - one of my favorites was Suno, and they showed about a month ago! I'm obsessed with the sophisticated silhouettes of their sportswear-inflected separates (alliteration), not to mention their as-always delectable patterns and prints (that mobile phone dress! ah!) Runway images via Vogue.com; floral collage by Ben Giles, also available as an iPhone case!

Other fashion month favorites?
Dries Van Noten - cerebral chic
Balenciaga - forever and always
Dolce & Gabbana  - because it'll complement your Prada SS'11 collection pieces
Chalayan  - when Cèline isn't minimal enough
Creatures of the Wind - Kawakubo for Beginners (in a good way!)

ASSEMBLY X SANTIAGO SALVADOR

9.14.2012

This is one of my favorite looks from the past week, courtesy of Assembly. The hair! The high waist! The sleeves, the collar, the voluminous pants! So good. Even better over illustrator Santiago Salvador's work. Check the blog a lil' later for more of my favorite looks from this round of shows...and check out my other illustration/fashion mash-ups here and here, while you're at it!

DEAR INTERNET No. 21

6.08.2012

Loving this old photo of Natalie Wood and RJ Wagner...baby boy is killing it, no? A halfway unbuttoned shirt + major high-waisted action, #ftw

These illustrations by photographer and graphic artist Anthony Gerace are part of his Final Decline & Total Collapse series, which is supposed to impart, "a sense of melancholy and elegy, of nostalgia for eras that have passed, and the recognition of an era that is passing." Deepness. His portraits are also pretty incredible...check him out on Flickr here.

Amanda Peet's L.A. pad, as featured in this month's Vogue, is finally up online. With landscape design by Miranda Brooks captured as beautifully as ever by François Halard, you simply must check this out.

Oh, man, some summery foodie-ness to share...spiced black bean, grilled avocado and goat cheese tacos by Naturally Ella, Coffee Hazelnut ice cream from Top With Cinnamon and a summer salad of peaches, tomatoes and cherries with herbs via The Kitchy Kitchen. Someone make it all for me? There's a hug in this bargain for you!

Die Antwoord just released the video for their new single, Baby's On Fire (my favorite track off their 2011 album, Tension). It's a bit like a John Waters-cum-Quentin Tarantino John Hughes movie, or at least definitely a lot less creepy than their video for I Fink U Freeky.

PARTING SHOTS

5.31.2012

Because I'm boarding a train to New York in an hour, but am pretty sure a force field would bar me from entering if I didn't first blog these...

01 Chelsea drew an impromptu portrait of me eating a cookie. It's pretty accurate.
02 From my "last supper" with my family at C&O.
03 My last lil' pillow project from work! Not to toot my own "taste horn" (is that a thing? and do I want to be tooting it?), but writer Zadie Smith has a chaise lounge upholstered in this same GP & J Baker linen in her dressing room, as seen in Vogue, and elements of the print climbing the walls. It's pretty awesome and I'm damn classy, is my point.
04 Me with my cousin's lil'un's! A sweet visit right before I hit the road.
05 And I can't help but share the almond tart Chelsea made me, topped with self-churned (is that right?) lavender-chamomile ice cream and garnished with mint. Damn!
06 A goodbye toast with friends...bon voyage!

REIMAGINING UNDERCOVER S/S '12

4.25.2012

I came across Undercover's Spring/Summer collection and totally fell in love, but there was a problem - the lookbook had so much grey, so little color! How would grown men know this was a collection meant for them? How would they see all the superfun layering potential? So I fixed it using my supreme Photoshop Elements skills. Now it'll coordinate nicely with all those Lisa Frank lunchboxes you've been pinning to your "fifth grade memories" board.

P.S. I know you're super-impressed by this wanton display of creativity, so feel free to be in touch if you need someone to illustrate your My Little Pony fanfiction. I've got an hourly rate.

JORDAN GRACE OWENS X *fruitpunch

3.28.2012

I'm sure many of you have by now noticed that *fruitpunch has gotten a bit of a redesign, but for those of you who may have missed it, be sure to take a look at this post in your browser. I've been working with artist Jordan Grace Owens over the past few months on getting some gorgeous new graphics and our end result is fruitier and punchier than anything before! I found Owens' work at an alternative craft fair over the holidays (you can see the card I picked up above) and felt her aesthetic really jived with my vision of the blog. Our art direction was a Wes Anderson anime with Warholian flair and I think we got something really gorgeous and fun. Hope you like it! Stop by Owens' Etsy shop and website to see more of her work.
