A bit design-centric this time around...
1) My new pillows! I had the silk I picked up at JohnSarahJohn’s closing sale used for the face of some new bed pillows, corded and backed with brown velvet. Dying. This is just a taste - the full glory of these babies will be unleashed at a later date. Te promiso.
2) Adorable votive candleholders I picked up at O’Suzannah’s 2-for-1 sale (only a dollar each!)
3) A brief update about the vegetarianism: it’s still happening! And look at how delicious these veggies were before I put them into a stir-fry (they tasted great afterwards, but didn't photograph so well.) Unfortunately, my reading list has once again called my food choices into question. During the summer when I decided to give up meat entirely I was deeply entrenched in Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals, which one can’t come away from without some sense that giving up meat is the right thing to do. Now I’ve taken up Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, a book by a locavore meat-eater whose dedication to sustainable eating makes my attempts at dietary environmentalism seem naïve at best. Not to mention I might not be getting enough iron or Vitamin B12. Sacre bleu…a problem I’ll solve with more reading...and lots of broccoli.
4) I spent some quality time organizing fabric samples last week and this Nina Campbell print became a new favorite.
5) There’s been such a renaissance in the worlds of soap and letterpress these past few years that sorting through the seemingly endless options has become an incidental hobby of mine. Brooklyn-based Saipua’s saltwater soap with rosemary and patchouli is already top of the pops and I just got it last week!
6) An early Christmas gift to myself…Kelly Wearstler’s tome, Hue. Soooo inspirational I had to put four “o’s” in “so.” There've been some great Wearstler-related posts as of late in the blogosphere; check out the Beckerman sister's and The Glamourai's Malibu fun time with the designer here and here.
