DRESSING A VINTAGE VIXEN

5.10.2012

Jenn and I got together the other week to shoot some photos for Vintage Vixen using my little ol' Holga, just for fun. I'd seen her working at the C&O bar and fell in love with her hair and general bodaciousness. Here she is just blazing in vintage Versace, Mugler, Givenchy, Dior...names, darling, I want names! You can check out the full sized images over on ma Flickr, if that excites you, and hit up the store if you see something you like!

MAMA FRUIT

5.08.2012

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. We celebrated with a two anda half hour meal at which I gave up being veg for a local pork chop (oops). We discussed the hilarity (and horror) of Mitt Romney's presidential candidacy and I urged my parents to move to France, not just because I'm a leftist liberal homogay propagandist, but also I hear the cost of living's not too high. I felt particularly grateful for a family - nuclear, at least - that shares my political views. And I don't know if it's kosher to declare on the interwebs what I gifted my mom, but I gave her Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle - and FYI, if you ever get a gift from me it'll also be that book, because it's the best thing ever. These are some pictures I quite like from one Halloween when I was in middle school. Joke! I was in kindergarten here. I think we were both excited I was partaking in the costume parade that immediately followed these shots. #goodtimes

Happy Birthday, mom!

QUEENS OF THE NIGHT

4.27.2012

Join Low Vintage and I for a fashion spectacular next Friday night, Get Low, co-hosted by drag queens Florence Marie and Helen Killer (seen here working it at UVa's drag bingo.) The runway portion will star a bevy of local babes (and dudebabes) wearing the hottest Spring/Summer fashions, not to mention select photographs from The Low Lookbook will be printed up real nice-like for your viewing pleasure. On top of all that there will be champagne and Shirley Temples, plus cheese and bread and dips AND hot DJ action from Three Witches and DJ Tyler Magill. It should be a lot of fun, so I hope to see all local readers out that night! (FYI: you can drop by anytime within the three hour window of the event.)

PORTRAITS BY PECKMEZIAN

4.23.2012

I've been overwhelmed combing through Flickr for the next Fotobomb...there is SO MUCH incredible photography in the world. These portraits by the Toronto-based Mark Peckmezian are a favorite find, though, and I'm posting them until I can wrap my head around which five photographers' work I most want to share with you next. Visit Mark's site and Flickr for more!

CAROLINE de MAIGRET X JACQUEMUS

3.16.2012

My aunt was in town last weekend and she's recently taken up veganism just because it's healthy or something, not because Gwyneth Paltrow said to. Weird. Anyway, our discussion about healthy eating gave way to a discussion about life in the French countryside, as conversations about living well are wont to do, and the latest Jacquemus campaign sprang to mind. Starring Caroline de Maigret in a video entitled "Le Chenil," it also prominently stars a farm and lots of dogs. I hate dogs, but love the idea of wearing a dress on a farm. Wait, what? I've corralled here a selection of images showcasing the line of simple dresses and de Maigret's awesome hair and highly suggest visiting the Jacquemus site to check out the label's other campaign images (they're beautiful - shot on film) and videos. Happy Friday!

THE SOCIAL ANIMAL

12.08.2011

Sometimes I get out and about in the world. Occasionally. When I can carpool...

I picked up some disposable cameras for a dollar each a few months ago and took one with me on trips to NOVA and RVA back in October. (Getting these processed cost me $11, just FYI.) I like that these are the images I got and that's all there is. They might be a bit crap, but they're a special kind of crap. They're my crap, *tear*.
