Today's post is maybe "anti-fashion," no? This is what I wear when I'm feeling really lazy! But it's a good base to let this sweet lil' bag shine. The real deal we need to talk about here are the shorts. I call them my daisy dukes simply because they're denim cut-offs, though internet research proves they should probably be revealing more ass cheek. Whatevs. "Daisy duking" is an ensembular phenomenon particularly prevalent in my new home of Brooklyn, where both sexes are pretty into it even though sometimes their thighs seem to be against it. How to get the look? Get out your scissors and destroy two pairs of pants, then get lucky - third time's the charm! You definitely need a pair of slim leg jeans, otherwise the silhouette is weirdly loose and baggy and brings to mind JNCO cargo shorts, barf. Cut-offs can be really great for resurrecting certain items from your 'drobe...I picked up these Ksubi denims back when they were still Tsubi, but rarely wore them for one reason or another. Now I'm in them literally almost every day. Literally. They're basically scratch and sniff at this point. Butterfly kisses!

QUEENS OF THE NIGHT

Join Low Vintage and I for a fashion spectacular next Friday night, Get Low, co-hosted by drag queens Florence Marie and Helen Killer (seen here working it at UVa's drag bingo.) The runway portion will star a bevy of local babes (and dudebabes) wearing the hottest Spring/Summer fashions, not to mention select photographs from The Low Lookbook will be printed up real nice-like for your viewing pleasure. On top of all that there will be champagne and Shirley Temples, plus cheese and bread and dips AND hot DJ action from Three Witches and DJ Tyler Magill. It should be a lot of fun, so I hope to see all local readers out that night! (FYI: you can drop by anytime within the three hour window of the event.)

NOTHING COMES BETWEEN...

Me and my Levi's! I believe this is what you call a, “Canadian tuxedo,” no? I’ve also heard it called a “Texas tuxedo,” which may be more accurate since Canadians wouldn’t count this as formalwear without a denim vest thrown in the mix. My 501’s are from a store called, of all things, Melrose, in Florence and the jean jacket is from Low. I'm really loving jean jackets this season, they're the perfect Spring outerwear, no? Find the right fit (and the right wash) and you're golden.

GOOD OLD FASHIONED

They say God is in the details, right? Well, the details here are my favorite thing - the red piping on the pockets, the high rise, the wide leg! These are my vintage Boy Scouts trousers, previously seen here, that (sort of) reference the silhouette at Kenzo I blogged about the other week. They look very old fashioned here, like it's 1923 and I want to sell you a newspaper, although last week I paired them simply with a crisp white shirt and felt very Euro. My favorite detail you can't see, but only find out if you ask me who I'm wearing, like it's the Oscars or you've run into Joan Rivers on the street. "Oh, these?" I'll say, "These are Randy Wards. His name is literally printed inside my pants because they used to be his when he was eleven." It's fun, no? Paired with a Steven Alan-esque shirt from Low and a skinny belt and faux-Sebagos from China.

MY BLUEBERRY KNIT

I looove my new sweater, although this outfit makes me look a bit like the lovechild of Chloe Sevigny and Freddy Krueger. Dressed as John Lennon. Ironically. I was going more for "Erin Wasson's imaginary band groupie," but I'll roll with the punches.

The sweater is 100% wool and the tag simply says, "handmade by Linda." I couldn't resist its oversized waffle-knit spell the other weekend when I stopped by Low, where co-owner Jessica and I decided it looks just Henrik Vibskov-y enough to work. I also picked up the pendant at Low - it's an antique Ethiopian Christian symbol that looks just lovely against that dramatic swath of chest hair, no? (Details, people!)

Sunday was preposterously gorgeous, the kind of fall day that makes you feel guilty for not having planned a hike, two picnics and an outdoor dinner party for ten. Instead of all that I took a long walk with a friend around some local neighborhoods. This outfit, now that I think about it, is actually second in a series-of-sorts about wearing brown and black together, because apparently I can't get enough of those two neutrals. Final installment coming soon! Also, I love this hat.

STYLE SNAPSHOTS

I stopped by Low this past Saturday to pick up some of the many things I have on hold there...a big hurrah for wonderfully indulgent small business owners :)

from left to right...

1) This is an old paisley dressing robe that I'm having tailored into a sort of leisure jacket/sweater robe thing to wear to my book party. Which I haven't blogged about yet. But I'm having a book party! Details on that soon - and of course, a big reveal of the finished product.

2) Handwoven Peruvian sack bag. I usually think these are too "hippie" for me, but this one has a few things going for it - it's authentic, it's eccentric but the colors are subdued so it's wearable and if Olivia Kim's new Argentinian purse is any indication, South American craftsmanship is like, so hot right now.

3) This hat! It's a ladies fedora, but I was discussing what that really means with shop owner Nora and it just means the hat is less structured (unlined, etc.) and it looks good on me so I should go for it. This image from T Magazine is my hatspiration...anyone know any good local people who could add a banding to it? And also where I could find a maroon/deep purple ribbon banding?

4) Just for fun, a giant Greek scarf. So colorful!

5) A little peek at my desktop's new style...I found this little vase in my courtyard (I 'spose a previous tenant discarded it there) and picked up a perfectly complementary orange mum at last weekend's farmers market for it.

6) And this is the hat that I bought this time around - you can't see it in particular detail here, so I'll have to include it in some upcoming photo shoot or other!
