HOW TO DRESS FOR WORK IN SUMMER

What you really need to ask yourself is: do I look like a power lesbian summering in Nantucket? The answer should be, "Yes."

I feel like I could totally life-partner with Rachel Maddow in this outfit. The black pant, rather than a lighter-colored chino, makes it a little more boardroom appropriate and would nicely complement Maddow's hair. And you know Ellen would wear the balls out of a pair of Chuck Taylors with her summer suiting, a look she probably made cool back in college, well before Jeremy Piven & Co. hopped on the bandwagon and ruined everything.

Up top we've got a pink, seersucker shirt from J.Crew that I'm literally wearing with a Band of Outsiders repp tie with boats on it, wHaT!? Let me explain: I was in J.Crew one day because I know they make XS's, looking for a basic white or dark navy oxford and striking out. Then I saw this on the rack and thought it couldn't hurt to venture out of my comfort zone. #TakingChances ( <-- Celine Dion reference, anyone?) It fits really well and looks even better wrinkled than ironed out, which means it's super easy to dress up or dress down. (This is it dressed down.)

And then we have these boss-ass (are we hyphenating that now?) Warby Parker frames. Ugh, aren't they so sick? Someone at work said I looked very "weekend in the Hamptons" in them, so basically she called me an asshole...but a hot one!

• Instagramming iced coffee
• Instagramming a cute picnic
• Taking selfies
• Being like, "this is like, my favorite park."

P.S. Here's a beauty tip - don't wear a tinted moisturizer on the back of your neck (it had SPF in it and I didn't want to burn!) It will ruin the collar of your shirt and just generally be disgusting to look at.

FRENCH BLUE + VINTAGE DUFFEL

This is what I wore the other day while running around with my giant duffel full of samples (working on some projects...more on that soon!) The jeans you're by now overly familiar with (here and here and here), but I just love 'em with this long vintage workman's jacket, plus they're perfect for warmer weather. I'm pretty sure this color blue is like, #sohotrightnow and it goes nicely with my yellow Converse (last seen here). Not a bad look for Spring, amiright?

THE PRINTS OF TIDES

Don't soak your manties - I'm not actually a humpback! It's just the wind in that first picture, billowing up in my shirt like wind in my sails...this week's outfit, aside from celebrating the coastal splendors of Florida, is all about my new patterned pants. I've been waiting to debut them for awhile now, as it's definitively far too cold for them in NYC. I love 'em because they're dual-action, synergizing the patterned-pants trend I've had the hots for since Prada AW'12 with pajama dressing (see the pants in the last shot from the editorial I posted here.) High-waisted, pleated and 100% polyester, I picked 'em up in the ladies section at - where else? - American Apparel. The shirt is from Muji (similar here) and the sneaks are my Converse chucks (get 'em here.) The bracelet was a gift from a friend, but the handpainted leather ring is actually from Ten Thousand Villages - not a bad find, yeah? Today's post is maybe "anti-fashion," no? This is what I wear when I'm feeling really lazy! But it's a good base to let this sweet lil' bag shine. The real deal we need to talk about here are the shorts. I call them my daisy dukes simply because they're denim cut-offs, though internet research proves they should probably be revealing more ass cheek. Whatevs. "Daisy duking" is an ensembular phenomenon particularly prevalent in my new home of Brooklyn, where both sexes are pretty into it even though sometimes their thighs seem to be against it. How to get the look? Get out your scissors and destroy two pairs of pants, then get lucky - third time's the charm! You definitely need a pair of slim leg jeans, otherwise the silhouette is weirdly loose and baggy and brings to mind JNCO cargo shorts, barf. Cut-offs can be really great for resurrecting certain items from your 'drobe...I picked up these Ksubi denims back when they were still Tsubi, but rarely wore them for one reason or another. Now I'm in them literally almost every day. Literally. They're basically scratch and sniff at this point. Butterfly kisses!
