Camel By Calvin

12.12.2013

I started watching Twin Peaks recently and feel really under the influence of Lara Flynn Boyle and Kyle MacLachlan. The show has this great 50's-by-way-of-the-90's styling that I'm really into, though I don't know if I totally captured it here—I just feel like I'm channeling it, which is probably more appropriate, anyway.

The coat is a thrifted Calvin Klein lady coat from the Salvation Army...it has these really great sleeves and jumbo pockets and is 100% wool and made in the USA, natch. I'd been on the lookout for a big camel coat this season and was waiting for this Zara number to come down (waaay down) in price, but serendipitously stumbled upon this baby when I went to meet a friend for lunch. Dreams do come true!

TopShop has a similar looking coat, if you're interested! Photos Angelica Domingo / This Fruit Blogs.

P.S. Here's a pretty good roundup of Twin Peaks style, if you're into it.

Today's post is maybe "anti-fashion," no? This is what I wear when I'm feeling really lazy! But it's a good base to let this sweet lil' bag shine. The real deal we need to talk about here are the shorts. I call them my daisy dukes simply because they're denim cut-offs, though internet research proves they should probably be revealing more ass cheek. Whatevs. "Daisy duking" is an ensembular phenomenon particularly prevalent in my new home of Brooklyn, where both sexes are pretty into it even though sometimes their thighs seem to be against it. How to get the look? Get out your scissors and destroy two pairs of pants, then get lucky - third time's the charm! You definitely need a pair of slim leg jeans, otherwise the silhouette is weirdly loose and baggy and brings to mind JNCO cargo shorts, barf. Cut-offs can be really great for resurrecting certain items from your 'drobe...I picked up these Ksubi denims back when they were still Tsubi, but rarely wore them for one reason or another. Now I'm in them literally almost every day. Literally. They're basically scratch and sniff at this point. Butterfly kisses!

P.S. Here's Poppy Delevigne wearing round sunglasses so BAM, #trendybish

THE SPRING 2013 REVIEW

7.02.2012

I posted Marc Jacob's Spring/Summer '13 collection lookbook last week, but there are of course more wonderful designer duds to share and this season I've thunk up a new (and hopefully fun and interesting) way to show y'all some of my favorite looks. I always love a captivating magazine cover, so I took a smattering of ensembles from a few different collections and put them on top of vintage Paris Review covers I found via Pinterest...then I employed the handy-dandy poster edges filter (I'll get fancier someday) et voilá! I present to you my spring 2013 review...

Clockwise, from top left: Gucci, Burberry Prorsum, Calvin Klein, Moncler Gamme Rouge; all Paris Review covers via
