ZARA SKORT + LEATHER LEGGINGS

Or: How to cop that A$AP swagger through strategic layering (and a little bit of cross-dressing).

Just kidding, it's a lot of "cross-dressing": everything I'm wearing here, aside from the unisex leather baseball cap, is women's clothing. The pleather-sleeved top is from Catalog in the East Village—it's imported from Korea and aside from those awesome sleeves, has a pretty big slit that runs up each side for enhanced #sexappeal. The label just says, "S/McCartney," bless.

The pleather leggings (last seen here and here) are my Urban Outfitters ones, though I did recently pick up a new pair (more on that later). Layered over top of them is that Zara skort, which apparently they also make in a pInSTriPe!? OMG I'm dying. (Also, trying to remember if I've ever shopped the "men's section" at Zara...?) Ugh p.s. skirts over leather leggings is so sick for fall, dudes. Brahz. Give it a go. Name your baby North West. Live life.

The dual bangles are from Koichi at the Brooklyn Flea and the buckle-y fetish sneaks are ASH Italia. While I've heard this skort referred to as, "the one bloggers wear," the only other boy blogger I've seen in it is Martan, who wore it sans leggings of any kind. I really like it as a layering piece, but you can't slide it over just anything since it's basically a pair of shorts. Layering it over pants—trying to get the look of these Thamanyah pants I pinned from LN-CC last season—warranted waiter comparisons :/ Check out my inspiration board, after the jump!

ABUELITO IS THE LOOK

8.01.2013

Because Cuban grandfathers are so hot right now, I guess? Maybe I shouldn't be in charge of improving my own sex life...

I've been on a shirt-buying rampage of late and this short-sleeve marble jacquard number from Sidian, Ersatz, & Vanes is one of my most favoritest acquisitions—picked up on sale at Owen for a quarter of the original price, #winning. I love the print, obvs, but also that pajama-y collar—it looks perfect left open so I can flaunt my charpet (chest carpet, duh), so graciously exposed as it is by one of OAK's versatile tees. The high-waisted pants were last seen here, the hat and pinky ring you saw here, and the bracelet is Giles & Brother. The frames are Warby Parker's Begley—do we like the round shape? It's been divisive...but I think I'm on board with it. Photos McArthur Joseph.

[TRENDSPOTTING] STACKABLE RINGS

6.07.2013

I, like all other people with eyes and Style.com bookmarked, have been obsessed with the stacked rings at Balenciaga S/S'13 for months now. But I hadn't really even tried to, "Get the look!" because of my giant man hands and the assumption that anything remotely similar (and equally delicate) would be made for slender lady knuckles.

In an attempt to show some sort of solidarity with departed designer Nicolas Ghesquière and his under-appreciated commercial savvy, I picked up a pair of thick vintage brass rings and accepted wearing one on my pointer finger and one on my pinky as the closest I would get to recreating the splendor of The Stacked Effect. Then I left those in a public bathroom (hand washing, be damned!) and resigned myself to misery. But then I stopped by the Flea again (again) last weekend and found a vendor selling these sweet pieces of ass:

Aren't they so perf you could throw up all over yourself? I almost didn't buy them to teach myself a lesson about being responsible and blah blah blah, but then I did buy them to feel cool and pretty. And I do! #winning

You can shop a similar style here, or check out the Brooklyn Flea!

STEPHEN EINHORN

10.25.2012

British jewelry designer Stephen Einhorn's work has graced the cover of Ponystep magazine and the pages of British Elle. He designed the jewelry for Florabotanica frontwoman Kristen Stewart's epic, Snow White & The Huntsman, and has had his pieces featured on HBO's True Blood. Needless to say, you can imagine my surprise and delight when the company was in touch to share their product with little ol' me.

The jewelry is produced entirely in workshops in London where, "everybody makes tea for everybody else" - from the designer to the apprentice. The company is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and using recycled metals, such as the sterling silver from which my knife-edge medium bracelet is made. Speaking of which, look at how pretty this bracelet is! I'm in love with it. It's like Tiffany's for boys and fills a gap in my jewelry collection - or, really, just sort of lords over it with its ice-queen realness. You can check out some of my other favorite pieces including this bull ring and the beautifully detailed golden bones ring at Einhorn's online store.

The post title is totally, definitely, yes indeedy the tagline to the Sex And The City movie, because despite the fact that Girls is the cultural touchstone du jour, I'm still a Charlotte at heart. A Charlotte-Miranda hybrid. With a dash of Carrie, but maybe like, later seasons Carrie? Long story short, aren't these brownstones around my neighborhood so pretty? And don't I look so ready for Korean Mr. Big to sweep me off my feet in a black town car that preferably runs on peanut oil? Because that's how I feel.

These bitchin' black pants I picked up for an interview from Acne's new Greene Street shop (sidenote: they're ladypants and can someone explain to me why pockets in women's pants are SO SMALL? Women have hands too, last time I checked!) The Steven Alan shirt I scooped at a sample sale - I love it with the sleeves rolled all the way up - and the bright turquoise bracelets add a nice "tribal candy jewelry" vibe. My Filson briefcase has been a huge compliment-magnet, even though I figured New York would be fairly supersaturated with Filson briefcases, and paired with my vintage Ferragamo loafers it makes this a fairly nice casual Friday look, no? A bit more polished than a lot of my outfits of late!

BELL IS THE NEW BLACK

5.07.2012

Or, an alternative post title might be, "Trucker Lovechild." The bell bottoms are vintage Mudd ladyjeans that I picked up at Ike's Underground - I know I said bell bottoms were a trend that wouldn't be coming back into fashion...but I lied, as they are obviously f*cking awesome. I paired them here with my vintage Ralph flannel and an army surplus jacket I had customized last year by my darling dearest BFF, screenprinting wunderkind James Anthony. The boots and bracelet are from Low Vintage and ma sunnies are from Bygones Vintage in Richmond.

I'm crazy about these wooden beads and the "summer of love" vibe they lend to my wardrobe, drawing inspiration from this previously blogged editorial. So what's the consensus? Are we all on board the bell bottom bandwagon? Or am I alone on the Ashton-Kutcher-circa-That-70's-Show express? Photos Joel Codiamat.

DON'T CALL ME SHIRLEY

1.06.2012

A closer look at some of the jewelry I was wearing in this week's outfit post
(from left to right):

My grandfather apparently tried his hand at silversmithing when he was younger and this simple, beautiful ring is unfortunately all that remains of that hobby. I was really excited to find out we had jewelry in common, in addition to hats. My new silver "Shirley" ring is so much fun - what a great script, no? It's super small so I wear it on my pinkie. It's from Low, and so is the cameo ring to next to it (which I still love, even though the plating is literally chipping off, eek). The beads are a necklace that I wear as a bracelet, wrapped twice around my wrist (I wasn't wearing those in the post.) Seems silver is having a moment with me!

1) New scarf from Anthropologie. The unique, inky print reminds me of one of designer Barbara Barry's Indochine collection fabrics for Kravet. w00t textile nerds!
2) Beads are my new thing. Or am I just having a bead moment right now? They go with everything and nothing, especially crafty colored ones as seen here on this vintage handmade bracelet I picked up at Low, so I'm embracing them.
3) I love this book. It's gorgeous. That is all.
4) My new ring from Bygones vintage in Richmond. I've been wanting something snaky for awhile now and at $24 with an adjustable band, this baby was almost too good to be true.
5) I bought an ivy plant for my mini planter. It's so cute! The perfect way to bring green indoors during winter.
6) Also picked up this plaster bust/mask thing while thrifting in Richmond. Rearranged my bathroom for it. Love it! Show me a man who doesn't want the facsimile of an older, bearded gentleman watching him pee and I'll show you a man who doesn't get HBO.

DEAR INTERNET No. 14

This seventies-inflected editorial is just, like, the ultimate. In everything. Ever. By Christophe Kutner.

A selection of art from my Tumblr...Rothko, Sorolla and the entire blog from which I pulled that last one is now deleted, so...idk.

I know I said that editorial was the ultimate in everything, ever, but actually this is. From the Chanel Paris-Bombay collection. He's wearing a bejeweled sash and twin diamond bracelets. Enough. Said.

Garance Doré shared the Paris jewelry studio of Lara Melchior, c'est bon!

And this is one of those videos that isn't a video, sorry, but I feel the need to follow up my previous post's Jamie-xx-remix-via-Florence-Welch with this track. The vocals aren't my favorite, but the steel drums...it's love! Consider it the musical equivalent of whatever the reverse of Christmas in July would be. July...in...Christmas? The best part starts at 2:12 or so.

Happy weekend!

EASY DOES IT

11.09.2011

Oo la, here I am with my bag in a parking lot, but all of the cars have gone so it seems a bit like I've wondered onto the set of a zombie movie. Sexy!

Hasn't the weather been wonderful this week? I'm relishing light layers while it lasts. This sweater is a Fall staple - J.Crew cashmere cardigan in heather gray - an absolute must. Wait for them to go on sale and then pounce. The cords are my True Religions, eek, I know, so five years ago! It's like a time portal post, but what can I say, I love them, regardless of the fact that Fergie rapped about them in 'My Humps'. It's ok. Plus, they're some of the widest-leg pants I have and we know how I'm feeling about wide-leg pants right now. The bag I picked up in Florence. I don't use it as much as I should because it doesn't fit my laptop, but I do love it tucked under my arm.

My new Low Luv by Erin Wasson ring (the super chunky one) is phenomenal, but I got it stuck on my finger for three days and have a blister from taking it off. Lesson learned; knuckle-shaving appointment scheduled. (Joke!) Next to that I've got my Cheap Monday Hawk ring worn upside-down on my...what is that, my "top knuckle"? Well, there it is, that's all I know. Hope you're enjoying this warm weather spell~

from left to right, top to bottom…
1) I finally succumbed to the temptation of the “arm party.” I rooted through my jewelry box and found an assortment of bracelets that I think work well together, including my jangly pirate coin bracelet of which a friend once said, “that’ll be nice for your girlfriend.”
2) I went to Richmond for the first time this past weekend – apparently it’s more than just where the big mall is! We went out for brunch on Sunday morning to Kuba Kuba where I enjoyed café con leche and eggs and toast and avocado. C’est bon.
3) This…is a flower. Maybe there being only one is a metaphor for winter coming on? Or...pretty!
4) A most wonderful bike in a most wonderful color.
5) Busted out my Hermès pocket square the other day…but then it turned out to be too hot for a jacket. What is this weather, October?
6) My new ring! Malababa from Need Supply Co. I am completely obsessed with it and was getting a bit out of control on their jewelry display. I might have been straddling it at one point, but it’s ok! Because this baby has reignited my passion for jewelry, which had been lying dormant seeing as piling it on isn’t practical for work. Well, slap my ass and shower me with diamonds, because I fU*KiNg LoVe JeWelRY – practicality be damned!
