BLAZERS AS OUTERWEAR

It's about thirty degrees out as I write this and I'm snuggled up by the roaring sexual fire that is Hugh Jackman's chest hair (read: alone in my bed). What's on my mind, aside from naked Hugh Jackman (seriously though, is there any other man you'd rather have keeping you warm at the onset of winter?) is a boiled wool blazer that could function as a suiting separate and outerwear. Obviously, if it's thirty degrees out, you probably want a fairly heavy-duty coat—but for the sake of this post let's just pretend it's October in Paris and you aren't going to die a slow and agonizing death curled up on a curb in the fetal position if you're sans a full-length duffel coat.

The examples I've found include Enrique Campos in Paris, looking brills in gray, white and navy, and Angelo Flaccavento in what looks to be a heavier wool suit. This train of thought started when I came across Steven Alan's Joaquin Blazer (below), which fits me incredibly well and is totally gorgeous, but I'm about seven years away from being able to afford it. It's a 75/25 wool/polyester blend, which makes me hesitate because I'm always railing against polyester...but it's also made in the U.S. and is tailored so, so well—plus I just love those pockets! The look is vintage-y, but the cut is contemporary...I could wear it with black pants, jeans, quilted apron front man-skirts layered over pants—the possibilities are endless! I just need to hawk some isht on eBay first...

FRUIT FANCIES No. 9

Winter is here, y'all—and so, therefore, is coat season. This means that I, your #fblogger #fbuddy, am feeling compelled to tell you all about which coats are cute, which ones are lame, and which ones are kinda in between. Harken to my wisdom!

Coat Thom Browne // Bag WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie // Scarf Acne // Boots Saint Laurent // Jeans Balenciaga // Eau de Toilette Comme des Garçons

This look is super simple, which I love, and draws heavily on what I think of as classic English references—the houndstooth coat, the military boot, the less-classic-but-still-English "punk" skinny jean. It's pretty well monochromatic, which I get off on, and is super-luxe without being overtly so. Also, just for the record, that WANT clutch is actually pretty affordable (and totally gorgeous.) The EDT I literally only discovered this past weekend—I actually reworked my lil' collage here to fit it in. I am completely and totally consumed by desire for this frag. No joke. When I think about it, I want to touch myself, that's how good it is / LOLZ #TMI.

Another really good fragrance I recently discovered is Like This, Tilda Swinton's collaboration with Etat Libre d'Orange. It's Tilda, so obvs it's unisex, and it basically smells like the complete and total opposite of CDG Black—perfect for those days you don't want catching a whiff of your own wrist to incite overwhelming sexual desire. Anyway, while I love the Thom Browne coat, I think I may be leaning this season more toward really oversized lady coats.

Zara actually has a pretty nice, albeit overpriced, drape-y robe coat that's a little bit boner-inducing (and actually a wool/silk blend, natch.) I've told myself I'll get it the second it goes on sale...unless I find something better / actually cut for a small man and not a woman. [COAT TALES] THE COCOON

Today's post is all about taking some sartorial inspiration from the ladies. I picked up this wool-blend cocoon coat at Uniqlo, operating under the influence of Céline's oversized cocoon concoctions from AW'12, showing up in ads and eds all over right now. The sporty thing has been #trending in a big way, I think partly due to the omnipresence of those Nike sneaker heels, or, "sneels," and Lord knows everybody is still crazy in love with snapbacks thanks to Supreme's continued prominence at the forefront of mainstream style consciousness. My shoes are secondhand Y-3 from Tokio 7 and the hat is actually a thrifted Kool cigarettes cap, the green 'K' a subtle reference to those trés cool (punny! sort of?) Kenzo x New Era caps. I'm wearing the vegan leather leggings I picked up at Urban Outfitters last year (seen here) and a thrifted graphic tee in the same blueberry hue we discussed last week.

But what am I reading? 032c is a Berlin-based publication that came onto my radar about two years ago. They've been going for a decade or so, but I wasn't convinced to pick up a copy until I was piecing through their current issue and read the following in regards to the, "ducktail hair, washed-out complexion and bleached eyebrows" of the Balenciaga AW12 menswear campaign:

Aesthetic modifications tend to stay within the boundaries of familiar human physiology. When genetic engineering - in the context of being able to mold our image - becomes widely accessible in the future, there will be a point of departure where personal improvement drifts outside the accepted parameters of our anatomy.

Hot damn if I don't love a cerebral take on the psychosocial implications of the styling of a high-fashion campaign. That initial appetite-wetting was further appeased on getting cozy with the pub, which features in-depth articles on everything from urban planning to the complex family history of one of America's most prolific graphic designers. In short, I highly recommend it. Also, it goes with my outfit! Let's take a look at some of the other inspirations for today's look:

01 Karlie Kloss by Roe Ethridge for Acne Paper. I think, aside from the Daria-fronted seasonal campaign, this is my favorite image featuring that Céline coat. The styling...parfait!
02 Blogger Sandra Hagelstam of 5 Inch And Up. Hagelstam's looks are often athletics-influenced...here she is making an oversized basketball jersey look sexy, and not like Snooki thinks she makes oversized basketball jerseys look sexy, but in a real way.
03 Blogger Zanita Morgan of Zanita. Baby girl wears a snapback like nobody's business!

[COAT TALES] BUTCH

Here we have the first in a month-long seasonal series about coats, cleverly dubbed: "coat tales." Bada bing! Last week it snowed here in NYC (#barf), but I kept warm in my new vintage Carhartt jacket in this incredible faded red. It's gorgeous AND functional because it's lined (my mother would be so proud.) Don't I look so butch? One of my co-workers said of the ensemble, "It's Deadliest Catch style." Oh, good. Want to see how cute my full frontal looked? Check out the Instagram here! WINTER WANDERLAND

I went out to my parent's house this weekend to sort through the remaining crap in my former bedroom closet - what can go up on eBay, what can go in the bin, which piles can be condensed into larger piles to instill a sense of accomplishment, etc. I found these A.P.C. trousers in there in my "hold onto" pile and commissioned my little brother for a post-snowfall photo shoot.

This coat always gets a ton of compliments, though it's fatally flawed - there's no lining! It's just cotton and just cotton is not warm, but I can luckily layer a good bit under there. The scarf, a cashmere delight from Florence, is another winner. The hat, on the other hand...people only seem to think of Indiana Jones when they see hats like this! It's a shame, as I think it's just wonderful. How did you celebrate the snow? What is it that people who don't take pictures of themselves when the weather's nice do? Ski-tubing? Para-sledding? Reindeer herding? Whatever it was, hope it was wonderful!
