FRUIT FANCIES No. 2

10.03.2012

This edition of Fruit Fancies is a bit more polished than the last...I always clean up my sartorial act, so to speak, in the colder months - plus I found myself virtually encouraged to try out a more streamlined aesthetic thanks to Erin's last wishlist post.

Feeling inspired by the color palette of some of the looks in my Menswear Pears post, my starting point for this outfit was the wonderfully versatile military-inspired Wooyoungmi peacoat. The deep cranberry Rag & Bone sweater will look wonderful underneath, with the chambray collar of the NN.07 washed-denim shirt poking out. Maybe it's playfully popped and your hair is messy in a sexy way (the look of this guy comes to mind.) The Ray Ban wayfarers are a classic touch for day and when you hit up the dimly lit corridors of your date night hotspot you can switch 'em out for some sophisticated YSL Aviator frames. I like the coat paired with selvage denim. I picked this pair from Men of Ilk because they're cuffed in the image and I want them cuffed for this outfit, to better show off the vintage Chelsea boots! And don't forget to grab your effing insanely gorgeous Florian Denicourt tote on the way out the door...

[STREET STYLE] IN THE CITY

6.02.2012

So, I'm officially in New York City! To sum up the experience so far: carry things, walk, eat, subway, walk, carry things, eat. There is actually a pretty funny story with which I could regale you, about me trying to ride a bike the size of a horse, but I feel like it needs to be acted out. Instead, prettiness! It was unseasonably chilly (i.e. 65-ish) and grey here yesterday - perfect for shooting. I passed this girl and was thrown into a fit of indecision about whether or not to approach her. I literally walked in circles for like, three minutes, but decided I would regret it forever if I didn't try. I just love the weight of those boots with the sheer button-up and that tailored bag! Not to mention her earrings, perfect hair and bracelets. The aesthetic here and the way she achieved it is just so wonderfully translatable to a male wardrobe.

What do we think...should I make this a regular feature here in the city, or are you supersaturated with street style? I figure it couldn't hurt to share what inspires me...and hopefully you feel the same way. And now, it is gorgeous here, so I'm headed out!

DEAR INTERNET No. 17

1.27.2012

Sharing the love...
The menswear shows have finished up and one of my new favorite things I'm seeing is the giant necklace that's basically a talisman, as seen here at Givenchy pre-fall. Also, men in skirts!

I love love love these desk "tablescapes" by Betsy Burnham (top) and Lizzie Bailey (bottom) for Lonny. I've lately had orange, lacquer, desk chair pillows, trays and decorating with candles on my mind, and if my weekend shooting goes well you'll see the results of all that brain juggling next week!

Oh, hey there Martin Margiela tote that is perfect. How you doin'?

Milan Vukmirovic is obviously my style soulmate - mondo chest action, check; aviators, check; a thing for pared down sophistication, check (sort of - I have a debatable track record in this department, but big dreams.) Also, I think I'm going to have to make suede happen soon, and buttoning just the top button of my coat is definitely something I did this one time that is now a "thing".

Lana del Rey is so hot right now, but I can't just blog about any old LDR song since that would be so two months ago. Instead, I bring you an awesome remix of her single, Blue Jeans. In my dream life where I'm a DJ/Balenciaga brand ambassador/sexy gardening activist I'm totally killing it on the dancefloor with this number.

Happy weekend!
