HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT FURRY BOTTOMS?

9.08.2013

Not because I am one, but because they're kinda trending right now.

Example A: this skirt from Dries. (At least I think it's Dries? Internet research #fail.) Example B: this kilt from Yohji. Also, Topshop has a "fluffy boyfriend coat" right now, so...furry is the new black? I'm so in season, you guys!

I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF

3.28.2013

Or, fuckyeahsockswithsandals.tumblr.com. That's right, your eyes do not deceive you, dear reader - I am wearing the sh*t out of a pair of Birkenstocks right here, with socks. It sounds gross, but you should try it. I never thought I'd be into it until I came across these Birks at 10 ft. Single and fell a little bit in love. With a black sock they just look so...dare I say it? Chic! Current! C'est fantastique! And if you find yourself on the opposite end of the enthusiasm spectrum then you only have Dries Van Noten to blame, whose AW13 collection made the combo look just so sophisticated. Also see: Céline SS13's fur-bottom frankenstein sandal creations.

This outfit showcases my favorite use of a skirt and is the only one I've so far found myself actually wearing on the day-to-day. I feel a bit Annie Hall-ish, but also like a Japanese grandmother? Almost everything here is thrifted; a breakdown: the hat I got for $5 at Vice Versa here in Park Slope. I thought I'd use it more as a prop, but have found it functioning as a legitimate addition to my wardrobe. The top half of this ensemble is the same as what we saw Tuesday, but I've left the shirt untucked to get the extended proportion in the back. The skirt is also thrifted, and is really nice - Brooks Brothers, made in Italy, 100% wool, size 4 petite. Holla at me, ladies and gentlemen, if you wanna traveling pants this thing. The "vegan leather" leggings (seen here and here) are from Urban Outfitters and the bag I'm holding is a vintage rucksack I bought in Zürich.

I've got a bit more to say about this outfit, but have saved that for a special post coming atchu tomorrow. What do we think? Will you do socks + sandals this spring? Photos Anthony Urbano.

[TRENDSPOTTING] SHEER PLAIDS

12.16.2012

At Dries Van Noten, Zara and Qasimi. Definitely a Spring trend I'm on board with. I'll be able to reference my grunge influences while staying cool and you'll be able to see my nipples. Everybody wins!

THE SPRING 2013 REVIEW

7.02.2012

I posted Marc Jacob's Spring/Summer '13 collection lookbook last week, but there are of course more wonderful designer duds to share and this season I've thunk up a new (and hopefully fun and interesting) way to show y'all some of my favorite looks. I always love a captivating magazine cover, so I took a smattering of ensembles from a few different collections and put them on top of vintage Paris Review covers I found via Pinterest...then I employed the handy-dandy poster edges filter (I'll get fancier someday) et voilá! I present to you my spring 2013 review...

Clockwise, from top left: Gucci, Burberry Prorsum, Calvin Klein, Moncler Gamme Rouge; all Paris Review covers via

DEAR INTERNET No. 20

5.04.2012

Oh, look! Asian guys! Where'd they come from? The internet. Long story short, I discovered two amaaaaazing new street style blogs that chronicle the sartorial splendor of my potential future husbands (here's looking at you, dude in picture 1), photographer James Bent's La Mode Outré (bottom photo) and Hoya Snap (top three).

Ah, Spring...the warmer weather makes me want a new bag, preferably akin to this sexy Dries Van Noten number.

I've been pinning lots of pretty gardens lately! Look at them here and dream about garden parties with me.

Also on Pinterest - I recently caved in and started a food board. It's mostly for the photography because cooking is hard, but these recipes from Hungry Ghost and Tartelette look so good they're bound to taste all kinds of wonderful.

Pictureplane is all I've been listening to lately. The video above is pretty much why the term "mindf*ck" was invented (latex bodysuit!), but the music is just awesome. Check him out on Soundcloud here.

SUMMER WEIGHT

4.19.2012

Here I am working the pensive thing pretty hard, having obviously just descended from the back of my pony to struggle with further rejection from Zac Efron. I’m sorry I didn’t realize you weren’t interested in the computer rendering of what our baby would look like, Zac. Anyway…this outfit might be a little preemptive considering it’s not even May, but we all know this year’s been unexpectedly warm so hark, and listen to my wisdom.

The Uniqlo button-up is lightweight cotton that I washed and dried by crumpling it up into a little ball. It’s so fine that it holds the wrinkles and looks like linen. Or a crinkled-up-ass shirt you pulled out from the bottom of your dirty laundry. Debate! I roll up the sleeves and loosely tuck it in front for that “je ne sais quoi” effect. The scarf is a double-sided Dries Van Noten silk that I rarely wear because it’s so fancy, but the color! The detail! So good. And last, but not least: woven belts for summer. #revelation

P.S. I am aware that Madonna has nicer arms than I do.
